Looking For Comfort And Energy Efficiency Year Round? Consider A Dual-Fuel System

Homeowners in the San Joaquin Valley have a great new option for year-round comfort. It’s called a dual-fuel system. Not only does this system take care of all home comfort needs, it’s one of the greatest energy-saving ideas available today.

Simple Idea

The heat produced by a gas or oil furnace is great on really cold winter days. Heat pumps provide excellent, comfortable and low-cost heating on days that are moderately cold or cool. The marriage of the heat pump and furnace together can provide all the heating during the winter as temperatures vary from day to day or hour to hour.  It’s a marriage of two separate systems that saves on both electricity and fuel.

How Dual-Fuel Systems Work

A high-efficiency heat pump can be tied into your new or existing furnace and duct system. As temperatures hover above freezing, the heat pump efficiently generates all the warmth  you need. Once temperatures drop, your system automatically switches to the furnace. A switch is positioned at a specific “set point.” As the temperature drops below freezing, a heat pump’s efficiency drops. It must run more to maintain the indoor temperature, using more energy. At that point, your furnace comes on to provide the heating required. Once the outside temperature rises again, the system automatically switches back to the efficiency of the heat pump. Furnace fuel is saved for only the times when it’s truly needed, and the heat pump works only during its most efficient temperature ranges. The heat pump supplies all the cool air needed in summer while the heat pump and furnace combine to take care of all your winter comfort needs.

The combination of heat pump and furnace are designed to work at the peak efficiency levels of both. This can save hundreds of dollars in energy costs over the course of the winter months.
