A new air conditioning system or furnace is a major expense, but it’s often difficult to pick a heating and cooling company that you know will offer you good advice and quality service. Hiring an HVAC contractor doesn’t have to be a crap shoot, however, especially not if you choose a NATE certified company or technicians.
What is a NATE certified HVAC company?
NATE, which stands for North American Technician Excellence, is a non-profit organization devoted to testing and certifying workers in the heating, cooling, ventilation and refrigeration (HVAC/R) industry. A technician with the NATE designation has passed a comprehensive skills and service test in at least one of NATE’s seven specialty areas, such as air conditioning, heat pumps, gas furnaces and air distribution.
After at least 50 percent of the technicians who work at a heating and cooling company have passed at least one NATE certification exam, the contractor is permitted to advertise his business as a NATE certified HVAC contractor.
What a NATE certification means to homeowners
Choosing a NATE contractor means that the business and the individuals who work there are committed to being the best in the industry. It also means that they’ve taken the time and effort to take the NATE exam and that their service and technical skills are up to the NATE organization’s high standards. This translates into workers you can count on to install your mechanical systems correctly and promptly, and to provide quality repair and maintenance service when necessary.
